Copenhagen’s iconic 450m rooftop dry ski slope and urban recreation park engineered on top of a state-of-the-art waste-to-energy power plant.

Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) turned architectural convention on its head by wrapping a clean-energy waste incineration plant in an active outdoor recreation park. Sweeping down the rooftop of the Amager Bakke facility, CopenHill provides 450 metres of dynamic Neveplast slopes that transition through distinct colored difficulty zones—from steep, black-graded upper pitches down to gentle cruising runouts. Serviced by conveyor belts and button lifts, the rooftop includes a permanent terrain park, running trails, and the world's tallest artificial climbing wall rising 85 metres up the plant's sheer concrete exterior.
